How does CueSift extract YouTube subtitles?

CueSift first validates the submitted YouTube URL and retrieves public video metadata. After the user confirms the task, the YouTube integration checks for a usable manual or automatic caption track and selects the best available language match. That caption data is converted into ordered segments with start and end timestamps. If no caption track is available and an audio source can be processed, CueSift may use speech transcription to create a timed draft instead. The completed result opens in an editor where the user can review text, adjust timing, search the transcript, and export TXT, SRT, or VTT. The workflow applies only to publicly accessible videos; it does not bypass private or members-only access and does not read text burned into video frames. How does CueSift extract YouTube subtitles?

CueSift inspects a public YouTube URL and checks for an available caption track. When a usable track exists, it is converted into timestamped, editable text. If captions are unavailable, a speech-transcription path may be used when the task supports it.

Can I download YouTube subtitles as SRT?

Yes. After reviewing the extracted text and timestamps, CueSift can export an SRT file. You can also download VTT for web players or TXT when you only need the transcript text.

Does CueSift work with YouTube Shorts?

CueSift accepts public YouTube Shorts URLs as well as standard watch and youtu.be links. The Short must be publicly accessible and available to the processing service.

Can CueSift extract burned-in subtitles?

No. CueSift currently works with YouTube caption tracks or spoken audio. It does not use optical character recognition to read subtitle text permanently embedded in video frames.
